Tuas Port Phase 1 (TPP1): Reclamation, Wharf Construction & Dredging Project by Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore and Surbana Jurong Consultants (SJC) Pte Ltd |
The TPP1 project was completed in November 2021, marking a significant milestone for Singapore's ambitious move to consolidate the container terminals and develop the Tuas next-generation port to be the largest fully automated containerised terminal at a single location in the world by 2040. TPP1 consists of 21 deep-water berths that can handle 20 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually, and the project entailed soil improvement works on 414 hectares of land, fabrication and installation of more than 221 10-storey tall caissons, and the deepening of the sea bed to 23m below chart datum. Tpp1 is recognised for the adoption of several innovative and sustainable engineering solutions and green initiatives to protect the environment and reduce carbon footprint. |
Use of Plastic Waste to Construct Durable Asphalt Pavements by Samwoh Innovation Centre and Singapore Polytechnic, supported by Land Transport Authority and National Environment Agency
|
Samwoh Innovation Centre and Singapore Polytechnic conducted a joint lab study since 2019 to evaluate the use of recycled plastic in asphalt. The main objectives of the study were to evaluate the mechanical properties, environment leaching behaviour, and life cycle cost of plastic asphalt. The pilot project demonstrated that plastic asphalt can contribute to environmental sustainability, increase road performance, reduce maintenance costs and carbon emissions. A field trial is being conducted to validate the performance of the plastic asphalt under actual traffic and weather conditions. |
