Course outline

Two case studies will be looked into:

(1)  Incremental launching of Access Bridge for Shui Chuen O Estate, Shatin, Hong Kong

(2)  Mega Jack-up of Sky Bridge, Hong Kong Airport 

• The challenges and constraints at site (1 hr)
• The selected erection method (1 hr)
• The stability of the structure during erection (2 hrs)
• The behavior of the structure during erection (2 hrs)
• Features of design for safety in construction engineering (2 hrs)
• Implementation and monitoring of the strategies adopted in the design for safety during construction (2 hrs) 

Course Objective

The purpose of the course is to showcase

(i)  Special bridge erection method and provide an understanding of the bridge behavior at different construction stages.

(ii) The implementation of the strategies for design for safety for a safe erection of the bridge.

The course is useful and relevant to developers, contractors, project managers, site supervisors, Resident Engineers, Resident Technical Officers and Civil and Structural Engineers who involve in civil engineering works.

Profile of Trainer

Boon Fei is a registered Singapore Professional Engineer. She has won a Design and Engineering Safety Excellence Award from Building Construction Authority for her Sentosa Boardwalk Project and ACES Excellence Design Award for Keppel Viaduct Widening.

She acts as Qualified Person (Permanent Work Design), Professional Engineer and Superintending Officer for several Singapore infrastructure projects.

Boon Fei has 24 years of engineering design and project management experiences relating to bridges, underground cut and cover tunnels, marine infrastructures, buildings (low and high rise residential, industrial commercial), process and chemical plants (oil/gas/chemical complexes and odour treatment plant) and major temporary works in Singapore and overseas.
