WA Government Unveils A$1.4 Billion Clean Energy Roadmap

Share

The Western Australia Cook Labour Government is putting its money where the wind blows with a new A$1.4 billion clean energy fund aimed at overhauling the state’s grid. Set to be detailed in the 2026–27 State Budget, the investment focuses on major transmission upgrades to bridge the gap between renewable hubs and homes.

The “Clean Energy Link” (CEL) Projects

To keep things moving, the government has fast-tracked these projects by declaring them “priorities” under the State Development Act 2025:

  • CEL – North (Completion: Late 2027): Connects Malaga to Three Springs to unlock Mid West renewable energy.
  • CEL – East (Completion: Late 2029): Links wind and solar farms east of Collie to the main grid; expected to power 1 million homes.
  • CEL – Kwinana: Fast-tracked to support 900MW of new industrial demand in the Western Trade Coast.

Together with the North and East Links, the CEL will deliver 3 gigawatts of renewable energy, creating nearly 800 construction jobs.
