Solarisation of Singapore’s Industrial Estates

JTC has been actively promoting and supporting sustainability initiatives in Singapore’s industrial landscape, in alignment with the national sustainability vision under the SG Green Plan 2030.
One of the key initiatives that JTC undertook since 2017 is the implementation of a targeted approach to drive solarisation efforts across its industrial land and properties throughout the country.
JTC has developed SolarRoof & SolarLand programmes coupled with solar policy frameworks to simplify and increase accessibility to solar adoption for JTC and the industrialists.
Sustainable Green Station – Intelligent HVAC with AI-enabled energy optimisation system for Greener MRT Stations.

Singapore’s first underground stations to use Predictive Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate real-time data analytics and automatic optimisation of air-conditioning control parameters to reduce energy consumption while providing a comfortable commuting experience for more than 2 million passengers daily.
The complex condition poses by large number of commuters that move through the MRT stations, coupled with the lagging effect of existing legacy HVAC control systems behaviour, were analysed, and modelled. An optimisation strategy leveraging model that uses predictive AI on past and real-time data were developed and employed in two trial stations to reduce energy consumption.
SMRT Sustainable Green Station innovation for 70 underground stations is expected to reduce over 7,000 Megawatt Hours (MWh), based on at least 5% energy savings, which will reduce carbon footprint up to 3 million kg CO2 annually. This is equivalent to the annual average energy used by about 1,500 four-room HDB flats.
For the Green Station implemented at CCL Paya Lebar Station, an average energy savings of 8% has been demonstrated. This was higher than the 5% energy savings project target and is expected to further improve with the continual training of the AI model.
Smart Energy Town

In a typical HDB block, residential energy usage accounts for approximately 90% of the block’s energy usage, of which cooling takes up a substantial portion. For the first in public housing, Housing and Development Board has partnered with Singapore Power (SP) Group to bring Centralised Cooling System (CCS) to public housing. Compared with traditional district cooling, HDB locates the chiller plants on the rooftop of selected HDB blocks (removing the need for dedicated land space to house these chiller plants) and interconnecting them for greater system resilience which allows our residents to enjoy a more energy efficient alternative to conventional split unit air-conditioning.
The Accelerated Catalyst Development Platform (ACDP)

- Development of finely engineered and robust catalysts for sustainability applications, such as carbon capture and utilization (CCU), is challenging and time-consuming process.
- Accelerated Catalyst Development Platform (ACDP) is a flagship A*STAR project, which integrates expertise from three A*STAR institutes (ISCE2, IMRE, IHPC) for high throughput experimentation & Automation (catalyst synthesis workstation for parallel synthesis of 16 catalysts and catalyst testing system for parallel testing of 16 catalysts under wide range of operating conditions), Machine learning, and high performance molecular and provides unique platform to discover and develop heterogeneous catalytic processes faster to reduce the deployment time by at least a factor of 5.
- In a short time, the platform has been proven very suitable by applying to four industry projects related to CO2 valorization to sustainable aviation fuels and key chemical building blocks and achieved impressive improvements in desired product yields, thus highlighting its sustainability potential.
