Engineering, Law & Policy: Insights from Parliament

On 2 October, The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) hosted the “Parliament & Governance for Engineering Profession” programme at Parliament House, bringing together 40 students and young engineers from various Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs).

The afternoon offered our next generation of engineers a unique look into the intersection of technical expertise and national development:
  • Governance in Action: Exploring Parliament House and gaining first-hand insights into Singapore’s parliamentary history and law-making processes.
  • Policy & The Profession: Understanding the laws shaping our field, including the Professional Engineers (PE) Act, the RIE Plan, and Singapore’s broader science and technology priorities

Half-Day Seminar on Upgrading and Corrosion Protection of Steel in Infrastructure
Co-organised by IES Civil & Structural Engineering Technical Committee and The Singapore Engineer Magazine

As cities develop, they accumulate, over the years, a considerable stock of ageing steel infrastructure which need to be upgraded and, if necessary, replaced, whilst new infrastructure will need to be designed, incorporating the latest technologies and products, in order to ensure durability and sustainability.

The seminar seeks to highlight the solutions for the prevention of corrosion in steel, and new developments in steel products and applications in infrastructure, as well as present relevant case studies.

Date: 30 October 2026 (Friday)
Time: 2.00pm to 5.00pm
