Since 2002, PUB, the Association of Consulting Engineers (ACES) and the Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES) have jointly rolled out various ECM programmes, from awareness building, engagement of various stakeholders to launching of ECM related certification courses. This is to ensure that we have active, beautiful and clean waterways that Singapore can be proud of. Today, we have a pool of over 300 Qualified Erosion Control Professionals (QECPs) with the required knowledge and qualification to design ECM systems for construction sites that can comply with PUB’s requirements.

To further improve the quality of ECM plan as well as part of continuous training to existing QECPs, IES/ACES/PUB roll out a series of “workshop” sessions on certain specific topics of interest to practicing QECPs. QECPs will have the opportunity to involve in hands-on design of suitable ECM plan for a given mini-project during the session, and have opportunity to discuss with fellow QECPs and Tutors on their plans. Some of the previous topics include ECM proposal for minor works such as minor trenching works, development works without basement of a specified area, drainage works up to a specified width, and improvement to existing carparks. In this workshop session, the common problem on site clearance works involving slopping ground will be the focus.

Target Audience

  • QECPs

The objective of this series of workshop is to re-engage QECPs in strengthening their fundamentals, and developing suitable ECM plans, in relation to specific activities of site clearance works involving slopping ground. The end result will be a BMP plan in full compliance with silty water discharge requirement.

Course Outline

·       Introducing the outline for the workshop

·       Recalling on soil erosion on bare and slopping ground

·       Briefing on Site clearance works with slopping ground and the project requirements

·       Break out into individual groups to work on ECM for Site Clearance works

·       Presentation by individual groups on ECM for Site Clearance works

·       Summary and debrief on good practices for ECM for Site Clearance works
