This seminar is part of a series of seminars by the Building and Construction Standards Committee to keep the local industry informed of changes and new standards. The Eurocodes have been implemented in Singapore since April 2015. It has been a learning journey for the local industry.
The European standard, EN 1090 (Execution of steel structures and aluminium structures) is the relevant standard for fabrication and installation of structural steelwork. This European standard allows the use of higher steel grades not covered in the old BS codes and is used extensively in Europe and other parts of the world (e.g. China) for certification of the fabricators.
The Singapore version of this standard, SS EN 1090 which is made up of 2 parts has been adopted in Singapore to allow the use of alternative structural steel materials for building works. Certification of fabricators to SS EN 1090 would elevate their competency and therefore, align our local steelwork practice with that required by the Eurocodes.
