IES PRESTIGIOUS ENGINEERING ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS / ASEAN OUTSTANDING ENGINEERING ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS 2019

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

The IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Awards are created to recognize the outstanding achievements of the engineers in Singapore. The awards are given to an organisation or persons responsible for an outstanding engineering project.

The award presentation ceremony for the IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award 2019 will be presented at the World Engineers Summit on 29 August 2019 this year. The number of awards per category will be based on their merit.

Previous winners for 2018 include:

  • Soft Hybrid Surgical Gripper for Delicate Tissue Manipulation - National University of Singapore

  • Mars Science Space Rover - Nanyang Polytechnic

  • National Gallery Singapore - CPG Consultants Pte Ltd

  • AgilLiteS – Internet of Things (IOT)-enabled Lighting of the Future for the Smart Nation - ST Electronics (Satcom & Sensor Systems)

  • Automated Needle Targeting with Medical Image Robotic Assisted Guidance Equipment (ANT-MIRAGE) - NDR Medical Technology Pte Ltd

  • Bulk photovoltaics and unique UV sensors from bulk photovoltaics - Institute of Materials Research and Engineering, A*STAR

  • Low motion Semi: A Next Generation Revolutionary Semi-Submersible - Keppel NUS Corporate Laboratory

The different categories of the awards are as follows:

(A) Applied Research and Development

  • Research and development projects before commercialization

(B) Engineering Project

  • Engineering projects which have been successfully implemented

(C)Technology Innovation

  • Technology or product invention which has been successfully commercialized

(D) Student Awards – ‘IES Young Creators’ Award

  • Innovative ideas on applications of science

Criteria for the Awards

In making the selection for the above awards, the following criteria will be given special consideration:

(A) Applied Research and Development

  1. Advancement of knowledge with practical applications of science and has potential beneficial impact to society.
  2. Contribution to general public, society & nation building with considerations of the commercial and social impact
  3. Technological innovationwith Originality and Creativity
  4. Only one nomination or application per category for nominators and applicants
  5. The research work shall have been completed substantially

(B) Engineering Project

  1. Innovative engineering practices and environmental sustainability
  2. Contribution to general public, society & nation with considerations of the commercial and social impact delivered
  3. Only one nomination or application per category for nominators and applicants
  4. Engineering Project must be current and must be completed within the last 3 years.
  5. Project must represent a genuinely new approach or a significantly improved solution over an existing practice

(C) Technology Innovation

  1. Technological breakthrough, innovation and invention (Originality and Creativity)
  2. Contribution to general public, society & nation with considerations of the commercial and social impact delivered
  3. Only one nomination or application per category for nominators and applicants
  4. The technology must have made noteworthy contributions surpassing previous or current solutions.
  5. The technology must have the potential to serve as an inspiration or model for others.

(D) Student Awards – ‘IES Young Creators’ Award’

Open to tertiary level including polytechnics and universities.

  1. Project must be innovative and creative.
  2. Project must have achieved high performance in efficiency.
  3. Project must have high usability, inventiveness and have considered user experience.

The top winners of the IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Awards 2018 will be nominated for the ASEAN Outstanding Engineering Achievement Awards 2019 which will be presented during the 37th Conference of ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (CAFEO 36), to be held in September 2019 in Jakarta.

All submissions should include the following details:

  1. Covering page with Name of Project, and the FULL names of the team members (including full contact details of team leader such as email address and mobile number). Please note that there should be no amendments once the team members’ names are submitted.

  1. The executive summary of the project, including significant engineering accomplishment, the impact of engineering contributions and fulfillment of the criteria listed in the different categories (described in 2 pages of A4 size paper)

  1. Details including photographs and relevant drawings of the project placed as addendum.
