APPEAL FOR SUPPORT: EARTHQUAKE RELIEF EFFORTS IN MYANMAR

Dear Members,

As you may be aware, a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake recently struck Myanmar, causing extensive destruction and endangering countless lives. In the wake of this tragedy, our counterparts at the Federation of Myanmar Engineering Societies (Fed.MES) have issued an urgent call for assistance through the ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO), seeking the support of fellow engineering communities across the region.

IES stands in solidarity with our engineering colleagues and the people of Myanmar. In response, we are appealing to all IES members to consider contributing to this humanitarian cause. The needs on the ground are significant and varied, and your support, whether through technical expertise or other resources, can help restore safety, dignity and hope to affected communities.

Fed.MES has highlighted the following areas where help is critically needed:

● Structural Engineering Expertise: assessment of damaged buildings and infrastructure to ensure safety and guide reconstruction
● Shelter Design & Construction: temporary housing and essential facilities for displaced individuals and families
● Engineering Tools & Materials: provision of equipment and materials to support emergency repair and rebuilding works
● Knowledge Sharing & Volunteer Support: guidance for local volunteer engineers and recovery teams through training and collaboration
● Financial Contributions: direct donations to support immediate relief, medium-term recovery and long-term rehabilitation of affected communities

We invite you to come forward, as engineers and as global citizens, to help bring relief to those affected by this disaster. Should you or your organisation be in a position to contribute in any form, please contact Fed.MES directly at:

● Email: sm260859new@gmail.com
● WhatsApp / Viber: +95 9401600255

Let us, as engineers and humanitarians, come together with compassion and purpose to help rebuild lives and communities. Thank you for your kind attention and support.

Yours sincerely,
Er. Chan Ewe Jin
